3. Other Rules that Make Font Sizes Look Better

>> When designing a website or a mobile app, you can technically set any font size you want. But random font sizes can make your site look messy, hard to read, and unprofessional.

>> Instead of picking numbers randomly, most designers follow simple rules or scales.

  • Use a Multiple (Like 1.5x): Start with a base font size. Then scale other text elements using a multiplier.
  • Use an 8 Point Grid system: Many modern designs follow an 8 point grid, meaning all measurements are multiples of 8.
  • Use a Modular Scale: Follow a system where each font size is based on a ratio. Popular scales; Major Third (1.25), Perfect fourth (1.333), Golden Ratio (1.618)
